      The Art of Community - Book Discussion Group

      Led by Jennifer Deafenbaugh and Jane Grote What is the glue that holds a community together? This 8-week reading group will explore the book "The Art of Community" by Jono Bacon, and will help give leaders tools to cultivate vibrant communities that have digital and physical presences.  In this reading group, participants will discuss the subjects in the book and apply the learnings to the organizations they lead. To participate in this discussion, you need to purchase or borrow a copy of "The Art of Community: Building the New Age of Participation" by Jono Bacon. A maximum of two people as participants from any one community organization will be permitted.  The book covers the following topics: Develop a strategy, with specific objectives and goals, for building your community Build simple, non-bureaucratic processes to help your community perform tasks, work together, and share successes Provide tools and infrastructure that let contributors work quickly Create buzz around your community to get more people involved Track the community's work so it can be optimized and simplified Explore a capable, representative governance strategy for your community Identify and manage conflict, including dealing with divisive personalities We will meet for 8 weeks. Each week we will read 1-2 chapters. Dates: Sept. 30 Oct. 7 Oct. 14 Oct. 21 Oct. 28 Nov. 4 Nov. 11 Nov. 18
